The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has acknowledged that there is a shortage of Adderall in the United States. This comes after several pharmacies all across the country have been unable to fulfill customers’ prescriptions and keep up with the demand for the medication.

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy are two of the conditions that may be helped by taking this medication, which is often referred to as combined amphetamine salts.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has said that it would “continue to monitor supply and help producers with everything that is required to alleviate the shortfall.” Additionally, the FDA has stated that it will update its website with updated supply information as soon as it becomes available.

Variable timeframes of expected recovery are associated with the supply of the prescription that are produced by the various producers. It is anticipated that the 10 mg dose of Adderall that is manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals, which is the company that sells the most Adderall in the United States, would have a comeback in October. On the other hand, the company anticipates that a significant portion of its generic brand offers will not return until March of 2023.

The larger dosages that are manufactured by SpecGX won’t be back in stock until January 2023, while Rhodes Pharmaceuticals is experiencing a scarcity of an active component.

Ike Swetlitz, a writer for Bloomberg Health, told NPR a month ago that the shortages started because of a manpower constraint at Teva, which caused manufacturing delays that began showing up at other firms. Additionally, there has been a rise in the number of people diagnosed with ADHD in recent years, which has contributed to the rise in the demand for Adderall.

“So it seems like some individuals are simply going to have to make do without,” he added. “You should know that they are not doing as well at their jobs as they once did. They are struggling to maintain the same level of professionalism and intimacy in both their personal and professional interactions. People I’ve spoken to who have contemplated going to the black market are attempting to make up for it by taking other types of stimulants, such as drinking a lot of coffee or energy drinks. Some of these individuals are also considering going to the underground drug market.”
