If you want to create a snowman this weekend, travel to high-lying locations in the Western and Eastern Capes.

Snow is expected to fall in Sutherland and the mountains surrounding Worcester on Saturday, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

Snow is expected to fall in sections of the Eastern Cape’s Sneeuberg and Winterberg mountains on Sunday.

According to SAWS forecaster Kgoloselo Mahlangu, two cold fronts are predicted to approach the Western Cape on Friday and Saturday, forcing temperatures to drop and resulting in rainy weather.

Rainfall is most probable in locations south of George on Friday, with a 60% probability of showers and thundershowers. According to Mahlangu, the rest of the province has a 30% probability of rain.

Temperatures in the province’s highlands will be very chilly.

With the arrival of the second cold front on Saturday, the western regions of the Western Cape will have 60% probability of rain, with light snow in certain areas.

The rainy weather is likely to spread to the Eastern Cape. There is a 30% probability of showers and thundershowers in parts of the province.

The rain will continue in the Western Cape into Sunday, and cold temperatures, with the possibility of snow, are forecast for the Eastern Cape.
